Composition of 01 Energy Storage System
A complete electrochemical energy storage system mainly consists of battery packs, battery management systems (BMS), energy management systems (EMS), energy storage converters (PCS), and other electrical equipment.
In the energy storage system, the battery pack feeds back status information to the battery management system BMS, which shares it with the energy management system EMS and the energy storage converter PCS; EMS distributes control information to PCS and BMS based on optimization and scheduling decisions to control the charging and discharging of individual batteries/battery packs.
Battery Management System BMS: plays a perception role, mainly responsible for monitoring, evaluating, protecting, and balancing batteries; Energy Management System EMS: plays a decision-making role, mainly responsible for data collection, network monitoring, and energy scheduling; Energy storage converter PCS: plays an executive role, mainly controlling the charging and discharging processes of the energy storage battery pack, and performing AC/DC conversion.
02 BMS (Battery Management System)
BMS (Battery Management System), commonly known as a battery nanny or battery butler, is a device that monitors the status of energy storage batteries. The battery cells together form the battery system.
BMS measures the basic parameters of the battery, including voltage, current, temperature, etc., to prevent overcharging and discharging, and extend the battery's service life.
BMS needs to calculate and analyze the SOC (remaining battery capacity) and SOH (battery health status) of the battery, and report abnormal information in a timely manner.
04 PCS (bidirectional converter)
The energy storage inverter PCS, also known as the bidirectional energy storage inverter, is the core component between the energy storage system and the power grid to achieve bidirectional flow of electrical energy. It is used to control the charging and discharging processes of batteries and perform AC/DC conversion.
In recent years, the global energy storage market has exploded, and the demand for PCS has increased. Domestic manufacturers are constantly expanding overseas markets, and research on PCS has become a hot topic of concern.
PCS working principle: The working principle of the energy storage converter is a controllable four quadrant operation converter device on the AC and DC sides, achieving bidirectional conversion of electrical energy between AC and DC. The principle is to use microgrid monitoring commands for constant power or current control, to charge or discharge batteries, while smoothing the output of fluctuating power sources such as wind and solar power.
